The Barrett Foundation Inc. was created with a simple idea: everyone deserves a second chance. After seeing too many men struggle to rebuild their lives after prison or rehab, we wanted to do something real to help. That’s why we started Piece House in the South Coast area—a place where men in early recovery or just released from incarceration can truly feel at home while planning their next steps.
What sets us apart? Our founders bring a local connection and real-world experience—one’s a South Coast grad with a background in law enforcement, the other has a long military career. Plus, we’re Massachusetts Certified, which is considered the gold standard for organizations like ours. We’ve made sure Piece House feels welcoming and safe so that long-term stays feel comfortable, not institutional.
My name is Michael Barrett. I am the current president of a non-profit organization, a former business owner, a former corporate executive, and a military veteran who served this country from 1983 to 1987. In my career, I have worked as a vice president and a manager in executive leadership. But more than that, I have 25 years of personal experience with addiction. It is something you live with and manage every day. The reality of the world we live in right now is that every single one of us has been affected by drugs, or we have lost somebody we love to drugs. This crisis crosses every neighborhood and every boundary, because addiction and recovery don’t have zip codes.
